If so, what was it and where do I get one?? We have a king size bed in the spare room, and it's very comfortable. But in all honesty we have guests once a month for one night... And we'd like to use the spare room for a

...Playroom that will be used daily.

What's a good sofa bed for 65 year olds plus, who are used to sleeping in a king size bed??

Yes in the Novahotel in Birmingham.
helpful

houseisfallingdown · 23/11/2013 23:22

Yes- a Relyon one, but I think they may have gone out of business
It has a proper sprung mattress and cost a fair bit. Avoid the ones made out of foam.

And yes- in the Novotel Bordeaux- again not very helpful!

BackforGood · 23/11/2013 23:28

Yes, but I can't say I've ever asked the people who have owned them Grin

equally helpful

Kewcumber · 23/11/2013 23:32

Yes I have one with a thick sprung mattress from Furniture village - its only a small double though. Ive never seen a sprung king size mattress on a sofa bed

BadRoly · 23/11/2013 23:36

We have an IKEA one and paid for the top notch matress as it was our only spare bed and my parents were staying a lot to help with the dc. It must be at least 5 years old by now and most people seem very pleasantly surprised how comfy it is as a bed!

We have slept on the same sofa bed at friends houses too and they are much better than the ones that fold into the seat of a sofa or futons Smile

WildThong · 23/11/2013 23:40

Yes, an Ikea one. I sleep on it every night dh snores like a tractor I fold it all back in during the day, takes literally a minute.

Shenanagins · 23/11/2013 23:41

I got a lovely one from Laura Ashley years ago and it is still really comfy as a sofa and as a bed.

RachelHRD · 23/11/2013 23:49

We have this one www.futoncompany.co.uk/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29780#products.view&product_id=32827 which I sleep on during the week and it's so comfortable I prefer it to our bed! it is a standard double and the mattress is very firm but it's really easy to convert and great as a play room sofa.
It's expensive but there are cheaper options and it's great quality. Maybe take oldies with you to try some out!!??

BrownSauceSandwich · 23/11/2013 23:54

Our ikea lycksele is great to sleep on, though definitely not a kingsize. It doesn't make the most comfortable sofa, but as it's in the spare room/study, it doesn't need really need to.

FunnyRunner · 23/11/2013 23:57

Futon beds are good if you like a firm mattress but in terms of normal sofa bed you just want as thick a mattress as you can get.

FrumpyPumpy · 24/11/2013 07:56

Wow thanks everyone! Didn't really expect a reply, but these are very helpful. Smile

We had an ikea one too. Apparently very comfy according to my mum.

HappyAsEyeAm · 25/11/2013 14:48

Yes. I bought a Relyon sofa bed about 10 years ago. It has a sprung mattress, and it is only a couple of inches wide of a proper double bed width (which I think is 4 foor 6 inches). We use it as a sofa in our playroom so it has had masses of use, and its still going strong. It has been slept on loads too, and it is very comfortable, and I can't even try and guess how many times the covers have been through the washing machine. It was pricey though - about £1,000.

Indith · 25/11/2013 14:50

We have the Ikea Hemnes. So it isn't quite a sofa bed, it is sold as a daybed, whatever that is! It is very comfortable though and pulls out to king size ish. Drawers under it are great for storage too.

KatoPotato · 25/11/2013 14:51

We have an Ikea Beddinge in the play room which folds down into a very comfy bed!

MikeWazowski · 25/11/2013 15:18

I've just bought a DFS 'sketch' range 2 seater one - reasonably soft and supportive as a sofa and both mum and ex dp say it is comfortable to sleep on (not together though, that would be vvv weird!), mum is very fussy and can definitely be relied on to be honest.

justwondering72 · 29/11/2013 08:44

Ikea beddinge here too, with the best mattress plus s topper. we sleep on it when visitors come, and it's great. not king size though, I think it's queen size / 140cm wide.

Weegiemum · 29/11/2013 08:47

We also have an ikea one - king size and co fire than our own bed!!

Weegiemum · 29/11/2013 08:47

*comfier!

PigletJohn · 29/11/2013 11:32

some are fold out foam blocks, and some have metal mechanisms. Is there a pattern to which is more comfortable?

NorthernShores · 29/11/2013 11:34

Ikea corner sofa ektorp here. Fold or metal mechanism which I think is comfier than foam. Had a mattress topper too.

thecatlikesmebest · 29/11/2013 11:36

No no no to futons. Concrete.
Very cheap and cheerful but I once slept on a huge inflatable mattress and it was comfy.

smokeandglitter · 29/11/2013 15:24

We have a very comfy sofa bed. I believe it was from tesco Smile

plipplops · 30/11/2013 21:46

Ikea Beddinge here too, I slept on it while heavily preggers and it was v comfy
