Curtains tucked behind radiator or in front?

BIG Dilemma!! :) Do you tuck your curtains behind your radiator to keep the heat in the room or leave them in front of the radiator??
I've been tucking them behind but was recently told by a double glazing person that doing this stops the warm air getting on the window and causes condensation.

What's the best way??

I always tuck mine behind, I want to feel the heat not keep my windows warm.

Behind here. No issues with condensation and we only do it downstairs. Ironically all curtains hang freely upstairs, as radiators are on other walls...and here is always condensation up there. I just wipe them every morning.

Tuck between radiator and the wall, to heat up the room.

I don't have this problem as I don't have any radiators under windows. But surely the correct way is tuck them behind? You wouldn't benefit from the heat otherwise :/ it would be mostly a waste!

We get condensation but I want the room to be warm, not the window pretty. I can wipe off the condensation.

Get curtains that stop at the window sill Smile

sleeplessbunny · 22/11/2013 18:31

Tucked behind, I pay my gas bill to heat my house, not the windows Confused

Vatta · 22/11/2013 18:36

If you put them behind, don't they get dusty? I think it's better to have short curtains that don't cover the radiators

Nellymay · 22/11/2013 20:10

This is what I thought :) I'll carry on putting them behind the radiator and b*er the opinions of a double glazing salesman. Anyway we didn't choose their company to redo our windows. :)

behind - in the kids bedrooms - but I don't close the curtains in the lounge. I only shut the blinds - I have no direct neighbours to look into the house - only sheep.

mousmous · 23/11/2013 13:10

tucked behind. don't want to heat the outside.

ParsingFancy · 23/11/2013 13:23

Behind, or short curtains.

And yes there's less condensation if you leave them in front, because you have nice warm windows - and a nice warm patch in the street outside!

Condensation is a sign you're keeping your heat your side of the curtains.

If it's really bad, think about reducing the moisture levels in your house (appropriate ventilation, dehumidifer, etc).
