Double Quilt on a King Size Bed

We have a king size bed and on that bed we have a king size duvet with a king size duvet cover on it.

I don't like the duvet cover coming too far over at my side of the bed so pull it over further at dh side of the bed which is fine except it hangs down almost to the floor.

What I wondered was if I would be better with just a double quilt (with a double quilt cover) , still on our king size bed, so it didn't hang down so far at the other side.

Before I splash out and buy one and then realise it is n't big enough, does anyone else have a double quilt on a king size bed and does it fit ok?

I wouldn't do double duvet on a kingsize bed (I bet you'd end up with about 50 cm of duvet), but I would consider two singles (can overlap, no more scrapping over who's got more, easier to change bedclothes, can have different weights if one person feels the cold more).

We've a superking size bed and use 2 single duvets (light tog for me, 13tog for DP), cheap plain single duvet cover on each and a lovely superking bedspread to 'dress' bed during the day Smile

Isn't a kingsize bed longer than a double bed? So a double duvet would be too short as well as too narrow.

Just tried a double duvet on our king sized bed. It looks too small to me and doesn't cover the sides of the mattress properly (although I don't find our king size duvet overhangs excessively as you do) Why don't you goggle the size difference between a king and a double?

I have a king size duvet on a double bed. Love it.

Sorry not helpful!

Even if the duvet covers the bed I don't think it will cover both of you in it unless you are both in the middle IYSWIM!

Thanks folks, you seem to think it's not a good idea. I told my mum and she is going to bring her double duvet cover round so I can look at both together.

We have a super kingside bed and used to have two single duvets which is brilliant for sleeping but not very "intimate". We felt we we're becoming too separate in bed so recently switched to kingsize duvet which works well as we don't sleep right in the edges. BUT I hate how the duvet cover seems to have more room to slip around and there's always too much "skin"! Iyswim. We are not using a duvet cover and have a bed spread for extra warmth, comfort and also to dress the bed in the daytime, but I am getting poked by feathers. Any suggestions for keeping g a big cover in place?

No, we had a double duvet on our king size bed and it felt far too small.

Mandy2003 · 27/11/2013 19:37

I have one but there's only me in bed so it's fine.

Personally, I think a double duvet on a king size bed would be too small and would opt for the two single sizes instead. I hate not having enough of the duvet and being cold. There is a size chart here showing the size of a king size mattress and a double bed quilt - scroll down to the bedding bit. Hope that helps.
