Washing machine woes and large sheets

I don't know what to call this, so I'll describe it.

My washing machine has started to 'ball up' my large bedsheets, so they are soaking wet when I pull them out of the washing machine. I then have to separate the load and spin it again in two lots, once I've untangled the load.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I've had the machine for 2 years and this only started about a month ago. It hasn't been moved at all (as far as I know).

Maybe some part of the mechanism that used to REVERSE from time to time in spinning (or washing possibly) has stopped working so its now only 'winding up' one way, and not 'unwinding'.

Try and watch it carefully, and see what exactly is happening. Might the manufacturer have a web site or forum where you can query it?
