Garages

Mine is a tip.

When we moved in, lots of stuff was dumped in there, and since then dumping has continued. We've taken stuff out, used it, not put it back with similar stuff, filled carrier bags with random stuff, things have fallen over etc.

It's a nightmare! I spent quite a lot of time in there this week as the door broke, and now I want a lovely tidy garage.

Should I wait to the summer when it's warmer? How should I start, 30mins a day? How do I even go about tidying something in such a bad mess????

I suspect daunting because you know you can't do just half an hour, you'll get caught up in it.

I imagine setting aside a full person day (time off over Xmas hols if not before?) & then reassessing how much more time you need after that.

Maybe you'll find stuff you could flog on Ebay for dosh? Would that ease the pain? Money could come in handy before Xmas, too.

You could start it now, if its a dry day. Open the garage door and start with creating a pile of everything to be chucked at the dump. And then a secondary pile for things to sell / giveaway.

Once you've made space you can then start to organise. I have some shelves and an old dressing table in mine and have used the spaces and drawers to store stuff, paint, garden fence stain, paint brushes, spare black bags, gardening tools.

I normally do it twice a year with DH because our tumble dryer is in there and it annoys the hell out of me when I have to go in there and end up tripping over the lawnmower wire with a fresh basket of laundry.

Good luck.

Ooh, I love a good clear out. That sounds so satisfying.

Just a little tip that has worked for me. Put stuff to go to the dump straight into the boot of your car and put stuff to be given to charity in the passenger seats and set a time to stop the clear out and go to the dump and charity shop straight away. There's a real sense of achievement because the stuff has gone, gone, gone.

And if there's quite a lot of stuff that you feel you could sell a good move is to do a car boot, but then anything that is left doesn't go home, it goes straight to the tip / charity shop.
