Can someone recommend an idiot-proof can opener to me?

For some reason I really struggle with most can openers. I can't seem to get the connection right, but think I have, then start off, and they're just grinding away uselessly at the label.

I particularly hate those ones that take the whole top lid section off. I loathe them with a passion because they make me look particularly stupid so not one of those please.

We used to have an electric one on the wall when I was growing up (which must have been minging when I stop to think about it) so perhaps that's why I've literally never got to grips with them.

Any good ones? Lakeland??

We have the Culinare One Touch can opener - an electric one that magnetically 'attaches', you press the button, leave it to do its thing, and it stops automatically when done. However that would take the whole top off.

We mum has always had one of the standard ones - fairly heavy duty, exposed metal section at the top showing all the circle blade bits. They work very well and don't seem to jam easily. They also can just cut out the inner section rather than the whole lid.

A bit like this.

That has good reviews and isn't too pricey! I suppose I might think about one that takes the whole top off if it's really easy to attach (although the can does seem wobbly to me afterwards).

My mum's electric one was attached to the wall so I don't think it could be cleaned [gross] so it hadn't occurred to me that you could get hand-held electric ones, doh!!

Are you left handed by any chance? I am and just can't find a tin opener that works nicely for me. Unhelpfull sorry.

My Good Grips one is fail safe so far

No, not left-handed. It's just tin openers (at least I think I seem to be managing ok with other kitchen utensils!)

Very effusive reviews for the Good Grips!
