Tried to clean a mark off my new fabric sofa and now it's dried leaving a bigger mark, what to do?

There were a few small marks where I DH dropped a bit of chocolate on my lovely new fabric sofa, so today I gave it a bit of a dab with a clean damp cloth. Now I have no mark, but a larger watermark ring. How do I prevent this in future and what do I do with this ring mark?

Turn the cushion over?!
