Two children (5) + (6) with sticky fingers etc etc and a baby on the way.

House looks a shithole even after cleaning.

Would painting magnolia be the way forward?!

Yes. If you want it to look like an old people's home. Smile

Sorry - just hate magnolia.

bundaberg · 28/10/2013 14:29

no! it just shows up the marks quicker IME.

it looks clean to start with, and fresh. but then it starts to show the dirt

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 28/10/2013 14:32

We were thinking of painting the area around the dogs bed, brown.

Maybe this would work for you? Grin

Paint it white not magnolia. Looks fresh and with all the household stuff/ furniture and pictures/ mirrors looks great

mrssmooth · 28/10/2013 14:44

In the process of painting (the rooms we have not already painted) white. It has made a HUGE difference - really brightened the place up. Our hall/stairs/landing walls were cream. I would definitely second the poster who said use white, it just looks so much cleaner. My youngest is 7 so don't have too much of the sticky handprints issue ...

I am slowly re painting all the magnolia in my house with nice white vinyl paint for high traffic areas. Bright and wipeable!

Gatekeeper · 28/10/2013 15:17

durable, wipable white paint; looks great and never dates

legohouse · 28/10/2013 15:17

I was going to suggest it's not the colour,it's the type of paint,if you go for a vinyl silk (like previous poster said) you can wipe the walls.

SharpLily · 28/10/2013 15:17

Paint it all wipeable vinyl white and keep a spare tin handy - if something defeats the wiping just give it another quick swipe with the paint. Cue one light, bright, fresh and clean house - forever! It's foolproof.

ouryve · 28/10/2013 15:18

No, it would make it look like a rental.

I hate all white, too. It's just cold.

Bubbles1066 · 28/10/2013 15:32

No, we live in a rented house with young kids, completely magnolia. It shows every single mark. Don't do it!

Jan49 · 28/10/2013 18:46

My rented house is all white and brown and it's really boring. Don't do it.

IndigoTea · 28/10/2013 18:47

Paint it white not magnolia

YomAsalYomBasal · 28/10/2013 19:43

White scrubbable matt. You won't regret it Smile

lljkk · 28/10/2013 19:50

I love all white walls with plenty of colour from other sources. Magnolia makes me cringe and matches nothing.

ringaringarosy · 31/10/2013 10:11

i hate white it looks too cold, cream is also a bit boring but at least it feels a bit warmer than white.Get wipeable paint.
