If so how can I get them all clean again and stop it happening again?

Thanks!

I am going to guess it is made of stainless steel. Some hard chefs knives are not rustproof.

Rub it with a nylon scourer.

In future, open the door after the wash cycle, even if you don't empty it, so the stuff can dry out.

Check that the lid of the salt container is on tightly.

If you get a very small number of tiny pits of rust, it is the poor quality steel, usually on far-east metal.

I got this when I wasnt careful pouring the salt in. I rubbed the cutlery with a cloth and it looks a bit better but not gone conpletely.

Thanks, I know I always overfill the salt so definitely that then!

if you spill the salt, run the "rinse and hold" program a couple of times, and it will rinse away.

the nylon pan scourer really does work.

This happened to me when I bought a new dishwasher, I contacted the water board and found that the water here is so soft I only need to use minimal salt and also a basic powder with no additional salt.
As good practice I always remove my cutlery at the end of the cycle and leave it out to finish drying off in the air.
