Carpet ruined by damp - should I take it out now or wait for new floor?

We had a leak from our bath which ran down the wall into our downstairs toilet and has resulted in horrible damp stains on the carpet in there. They have dried out but the marks are left so it looks gross. It also doesn't smell very nice in there. I am really embarrassed about having any visitors or ds's friends round.

We are going to put a tiled floor down but can't afford this for a few weeks yet. Do you think I should rip the carpet out now or just leave it until we actually do the floor?

rip it out. it would give underneath a chance to dry, it would get rid of the smell and it looks like you are about to start work on it.

I would rip it, gives the floor a chance to dry. You could always put one of those bath mats over.

I'd take it up so that the sub floor is properly dry when you tile.

Is it a concrete floor, or wood, or chipboard?

Jemster · 27/10/2013 11:28

I think its concrete

OK, just take up the carpet and let it dry. If you have a fan, the air movement will dry it faster. You don't need heat.

Thanks alot everyone we'll try and take it up today.
