Leather Sofa

Hello. I have had a new leather sofa delivered today and as a virgin leather sofa owner, I wondered do I need to do anything to it to look after it? ie, oil it or rub something in. Or do you just use it and thats it? What do you wonderful mumsnetters do with yours.(I have sold the children and cat so hope it will stay nice forever!)

Hi there,
We have a leather sofa and have been recommended to use saddle leather treatment wax - try a horsey shop?? Rubs on and rubs off - feed and nourishes the leather apparantly.
Hope this helps!

MrsBadger · 04/07/2006 21:53

we use leather wipes - v easy

Joceybean · 04/07/2006 21:57

Thankyou. I remember saddle soap from when I went riding as a girl. Loved the smell of it. Without sounding stupid, where do you buy the wipes from? Also how do you stop your cats ripping it to shreads?

Baby wipes with moisturiser.

Mind you - I HAVE discovered that my entire house can be cleaned with these.............

BecsKatie · 04/07/2006 22:09

Wilkinsons sell the leather wipes for weekly use and are quite cheap - definately need to "feed it" every now and then with this saddle stuff though. Wipes are good for baby vomit etc.

MerlinsBeard · 04/07/2006 22:11

we just got a leather sofa too but got a lerather care kut with some oil and a couple f rolls of fabricy stuff. says to treat weekly but in our house, likely to be every now and then

TicTacsMum · 04/07/2006 22:13

Seems i'm a minker then with the baby wipes......

Joceybean · 04/07/2006 22:15

Thanks all. I will definately get something in. What with two messy children and a pukey cat, I hope it will survive.

I generally just use a damp cloth on mine to wipe up any spillages, only "treat' them once a year or so...

I did hope that those leather wipes would encourage me to do it more often, but I find you practically need a whole packet to do one sofa properly (though it says on the wrapper one wipe should do the whole thing).

I find glass cleaner works a treat

I could do my entire weeks cleaning with babywipes great for washable paint. We put our house up for sale & I washed all the walls with Simple wipes, you'd have thought I'd repainted.

Joceybean · 09/07/2006 20:22

Wow, thats interesting to know. Will bear that in mind in future.

Marie12 · 14/07/2006 11:21

Bbay wipes are great for cleaning the bathroom! Not that I'm lazy or anything!

JonesTheSteam · 14/07/2006 11:25

We use leather wipes when I can be bothered to buy them.

But agree that baby wipes are great too!
