Dishwasher not behaving right

Last night DP said the dishwasher was making a funny noise so he washed everything up by hand.

This morning I investigated and find that there is a big pool of water at the bottom so I bale out the water, clean the filters and notice that the detergent compartment hadn't popped open from last night.

I consult mn (obvs!) and run a short cycle which according to the manual is 35 mins long.

After 10-12 minutes the dishwasher made the noise it usually makes to tell me it has finished and when I open the door, it has drained but there is a smell similar to burning rubber, the detergent compartment has popped open but the half tablet is still formed (presumably because the cycle was so short it didn't get the chance to be used) and the dishes were dirty.

The smell bothers me the most - shall I risk running another cycle or is there any other DIY you can recommend I try?

burning rubber smell is really not good. You need to contact the shop or the manufacturer and DON'T use the thing again.

dishwashers can and do catch fire.

better £300 than a house fire!
