Yup! Ours was quite cheap too!

CatAmongThePigeons · 14/10/2013 09:40

Yes! Unless the DC pop the lid off and that doesn't work alone. B&Q have them really cheap atm.

Gatekeeper · 14/10/2013 09:43

cheers

Yes I love them! Though dh now seems to have lost all fine motor control and slams them down in other peoples houses as he just expects them to glide down gently if tapped forward and let go.

JustCallMeBaldrick · 14/10/2013 09:47

They're great, except when you're desperate for WLAN wee and someone has left the seat up...

JustCallMeBaldrick · 14/10/2013 09:47

*a wee ffs

Well they work for a bit... and then they stop working - in my experience anyway. Of course this might have something to do with my DSs so I haven't given up on the idea yet:

Soft close seat #1 (cheap "family" seat one) stopped soft closing after frequent soakings in bleach solution as DS1 does not have the best of aims and it smelt rank. Angry

Soft close seat #2 (in en-suite so not subjected to frequent dousing in pee due to considerate DH) stopped working after about 18 months, possibly due to the fact that DS2 would push it closed while I was washing my hands. Angry

Soft close seat #3 is a ridiculously expensive Bemis one with child seat that magically attaches to the lid (magnets), has quick release for easy cleaning, special fittings so it won't ever come loose and move about when you sit on it and (supposedly) ever-lasting soft close... We've had it a month and so far so good. I actually do love it more than is probably reasonable and I'm seriously considering getting another one to replace the other loo seat. Grin

Mine worked for several years but broke unexpectedly.

dingit · 14/10/2013 10:08

Ours worked for about a year.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/10/2013 10:14

Really daft question, but do they fit all loos?

SmeeHee · 14/10/2013 15:21

Iwish - not a daft question at all! Not all loo seats fit all loos and not all internet shopping sites provide the information you need to check!

I haven't bought from them so can't recommend, but this is one of the sites I found when looking for a seat last month and they seem to have lots of info on size and shape of loo seats:

www.choicereplacementtoiletseatshop.co.uk/

Although I've just checked the prices for some of their soft close seats and I'm now thinking that the one I got was a bargain! How can loo seats be so expensive? Shock

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/10/2013 21:33

Crikey!

I know the makes of both of our loos, not sure of the models though! Think I've got a bit of homework to do before this plan proceeds!

Thanks Smee
