Home fragrance options that work!

I love the smell of shops like The White Company, Molton Brown etc. However when I by fragrance from those type of shops it never seems to last.

Does anyone have any tips on natural or mainly natural fragrances for the home that last. Also any tips on how to use them/techniques to make them last.

I always wonder if you just get used to them, rather than the fragrance not lasting IYSWIM.

Do other people comment on the scent?

If you burn oil it leaves a nice fragrance, obviously you could just keep burning for as long as you like but it also tends to linger.

I think fragrances feel like the last longer when they're on fabrics or 'reactivated' in some way, as you do get used to them sometimes. Eg, spraying the sofa/curtains/bed sheets or spraying the radiators. When radiators come on the heat sort of diffuses the scent in the room, and as home textiles tend to get moved a lot the fragrances get wafted into the air more.

A tip on here that I've read is to mix fabric conditioner and water in a bottle to make a clean linen scented spray, or to put a little bit of washing up liquid in a bottle with some essential oil (the washing up liquid is just an emulsifier and you don't smell it), add water and use that as a spray. These tends to smell nicer than the regular air freshers or fabric sprays and the oils at least last longer.

My grandpa goes by growing things that scent the home. He has overgrown lavender by the door as it gets brushed on entering/leaving so you always smell lavender there. My mum used to keep basil in the kitchen for a nice herby smell. I know people who have perfumed flowering plants or cut flowers in the house instead of scents or sprays.
