Help - new home smells of dog!

I have mopped, hoovered and put down bicarbonate of soda and it still smells of previous owners dog :( Anyone have any great ideas, please ?

IME you're going to have to rip up carpets. :(

Is it carpeted? If so get some professional carpet cleaners in.

I heard that getting carpet leaders in won't solve the door problem. I will be gutted if we have to re- carpet completely.... :(

I hate animal smells I am not a pet fan and as I said you'll only get rid of it completely by ripping up carpets. But you should at least try cleaning first you never know. You can hire rug doctors In big supermarkets and B&Q.

Shake n' Vac and lots of it? Though your bicarb should have done the same job. Windows open, smelly candles or mask it with incense sticks. It should fade off eventually.

Rip up the carpets or get them cleaned.

I would not hire rug doctor as you can over-wet and damage the carpet.

Can you splash out for professional carpet cleaner? they will be able to advise proper de-odourising agent and you will prob also want a flea treatment too.

We had 13 years living in military accommodation, we had to do this as a condition of our licence. We often took over from families with pets but never had a smell or infestation problem. It might cost you £200 or more but worth a try before you think about recarpeting.

My mum had a big 2 bed flat cleaned for less than a 100 pounds with a local carpet cleaner - really good and leaves the carpet really fresh. It took just over an hour.

The thing about using a rug doctor is that it is hard and really heavy work.

Get it done professionally. Rug doctors can over wet the carpet and make the smell worse. Stream cleaning might help.

Get a proper professional in - you want an industrial standard hot water extraction system, not a one man band with a cheapy steam cleaner or his own Rug Doctor type machine, and it will probably cost in the region of £400 for a small house carpeted throughout. That should sort the problem out properly, but otherwise yes, you're going to have to recarpet. I'm surprised you didn't budget for it before moving tbh, everyone I've ever known who has moved into a property that had dogs in has had to recarpet within a few months, just because of the smell.

That's what my mum had done and it was 100 quid.

OP lift the carpet and see what sorry of state the underlay is in as that can be where the smell is.

i.ve just put a link to find it at amazon but i know you can get it at pet stores like pets at home etc i had a really old dog (who as she got older had issues) it did work esp if the animals arent there anymore to re-mess i've used it neat & also put this stuff in a carpet washer along with the carpet shampoo that is spec made for animal residues that you can get at any carpet hire place it may be an answer i know this stuff works on carpets, wood flooring and also even concrete hope u find a solution, is it just a doggy smell or is it kinda a dirty feaces/urine doggy smell if its that bad and through to the underlay though you may find you may have to start over fresh carpets etc
