damp e-cloth

hulababy · 29/06/2006 16:54

Been here for just 9 months and shower screen already started to look a bit dodgy. I always clean it when doing bathroom, and generally use one of those shower sprays, but to no avail. What is the answer?

Ledodgyherring · 29/06/2006 16:56

I'd love to know this one too.

eemie · 29/06/2006 17:02

Wipe off the water drops with a rubber blade after each shower (sounds a pain but takes 10-15 sec). When we've had visitors who don't bother you can really see the difference after a day or two.

Use a limescale remover once in blue moon.

Use window spray round bottom edges every couple of months to remove built-up limescale.

It does sparkle.

LIZS · 29/06/2006 17:05

Try diluted white vinegar or a streak free window cleaner spray, then an e-cloth regularly to remove any marks once the water has dried. Do you have an extractor as we find that helps remove most of the steam.

it's not the doors that get me it is all those grovves and runners.
best i can manage here is a toothbrush and the showerhead on blast! our water is very soft here so the runners gunk up in a few days.

Anal scrapy thing (Description copyright: CountessDracula) for us - one of those squeegee things like window cleaners use. Gets used by me every time I take a shower, by DH never.

pootlepod · 29/06/2006 18:00

Also try bicarb of soda, slighhtly wetted (I use ecover spray but water does just as well) with a non stick scourer.

Will take ages the first time if the limescale is bad, but now I just do a quick rub over every couple of weeks and it's as quick as using any commercial product.

Also agree that a window squedgee thing after each shower helps.

Viakal - horrid stuff but it works

fredly · 29/06/2006 22:35

Viakal works wonders.

nicnack2 · 29/06/2006 22:38

the wonderfully names cillit bang

waterfalls · 29/06/2006 22:39

Be careful how much you scrub the grouting, I housesat once, there shower was filthy so I srubbed and scrubbed, the day after they returned water was pissing into their kitchen (builders said something to do with not enough grouting) not sure if it was the cause or just shoddy workmanship

flutterbee · 29/06/2006 22:40

I swear by e cloths there great, DH introduced me to them always leave the kitchen/bathroom looking great.

Love the thread title.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 29/06/2006 22:50

I used an Australian product called Shower Power. Quite expensive and smells horribel. It works well - but doesn't last long. Never heard of e-cloths or Viakal but will keep my eyes open for them.

Alipiggie · 29/06/2006 22:56

Not super sparkly but use the mind-numbing scraper after every single shower and it does make a difference. The rest gets a wipe over every week. Can't you tell I live a sad life . Haven't got around to tackling the really dirty bit in a while - easy of bam (cillit bang to you guys) will do that trick.

jellyjelly · 30/06/2006 07:42

i USE mr muscle and it is great you spray on both sides and leave for about 3 min. Only needs doing once every 3 weeks or so.

mawbroon · 30/06/2006 08:08

Another vote for squeegying after every shower. Also if you are buying a new screen/cubicle then make sure you choose glass rather than plastic as it cleans better.

UCM · 30/06/2006 08:34

Using a window wiper is a new one on me. I will try that. Also, I chose a very cheap screen so that I can replace it when I need to.

sarahlou1 · 11/07/2006 00:01

I put a little bit of shampoo on a sponge & clean it with that before I get out the shower every day - the limescale etc comes off really easily.

eidsvold · 11/07/2006 01:41

Also recoomend showerpower - but I don't use too much of it - find it goes a long way. Just put it on - leave it for a bit and then rinse off.
