Two-door dishwashers....

I saw my first one a few months ago and swooned --- the two doors work independently of each other so a family of four could put the upper door's load on after breakfast.

Then my friend, a plumber, mentioned fitting one the other day - also the first he'd seen. He said he thought it was absolutely brilliant and couldn't understand why this wasn't the default design for dishwashers - that is, until the blasted thing wouldn't start because it wanted some fussy-dishwasher addidive added into its drawer (prima donna).

Has anyone got one, am I right to be excited about them, and is there one that has now more than 8 options made up of top/bottom/stop/go/hot/eco?

I read reviews, they were mixed in terms of reliability.

I too am very interested. I actually considered 2 slimlines so there's always a dishwasher to put stuff in.

I seem to recall seeing one on a home improvement show, and I'm pretty sure that the woman was a kiwi and had hers specially imported from New Zealand. I may be making that up though.

I wonder if something more commercial might be an option - with spare drawers to swap in and out like a glasswasher in a pub... I suspect they are ridiculously expensive and inconveniently sized though.

My friend had a Fisher and Paykiel one and I have coveted one ever since. They are brilliant! We stayed with her for a few days and I got to use it. My fantasy kitchen will have one of them, possibly two. Grin

Fisher and Paykiel, Dish drawers, yes a kiwi brand but have seen them in kitchen shops here, I'm sure.

We have the Fischer one and I luff, luff, luff it. Perfect if we are all at work/ school and just need one drawer - can set that off daily so no hanging about smelly dishes and option if the second if required eg weekends. Would highly recommend them!!!

Had one . Awful. Actually made me cry. Spent most of it's short, 2 year, life getting repaired. It finally died a week after its warranty expired.

F&P kept telling me that they couldn't understand why I was having problems, that no one else had ever complained ( implied I had some sort of dishwasher Munchausen syndrome ) .

Turns out loads of people had the same problems if you Google. The motor has a tendency to flood. Also they are made in NZ and parts have to be shipped in from NZ, on a slow boat Grin. We had to wait 7 weeks for a spare part while the dishwasher sat in the middle of the floor.

D Sis had one too, hers lasted about a year longer but all the control lights went on the blink after a few months and it didn't rinse properly.

If you still tempted by one, bring your dinner plates with you as they may not fit in as you don't have the same height clearance as a standard dishwasher.

It was hard to clean as the filter as well.And it leaked water even when it was working.

Also I read somewhere that the two separate drawers, as opposed to the two drawer unit, is a better bet, as less complicated.

When I went shopping for a new dishwasher the salesman rolled his eyes when he heard I had a F&P and told me I wasn't the only unhappy customer. I replaced it with a full sized dishwasher and a slimline one, both of which are still in operation 6 years later. Both together cost less than the double drawers.

RayofSun, how old is yours (and no bad things will happen to yours either I am dead sure).

Hmm - maybe there is a reason it is not the default design....

Sorry to hear of bad experiences, but I'm still going to get one (eventually). Grin

I wonder how much the insurance is with Currys? Recently bought a Miele dryer from them for over £700 and the 5-year insurance was "only" £99 more, which I thought was a decent deal.

If the insurance on the Dish Drawers is a similar amount, they'd be worth a try?

(The logic with the insurance being that more expensive initial outlay = better quality and less likely to go wrong. In theory!)

Ours is 7 or 8 years old now. We have had one problem with the lower motor when we first moved in. I think the previous family got into the habit of only using the top one as it is far more convenient. Never had a problem since. And we use one or both drawers daily.

If we moved, we would seriously consider another one. Grin

I have one,the top drawer does not work at all,the bottom one works now and again.
I seriously would not recommend getting one.

I've never seen one of these so I might be missing something but it soundsto me like two small dishwashers stacked on top of each other and you would just use one half and washthat half.

Now my ordinary dishwasher has a half load button which let's you just wash the one basket, wouldn't this option suit you better.

I also have a F&P one. Must be about six or seven years old. I love it. Never had any problems with it. Apart from the time I put some washing up liquid in it. Blush
