How can I make my bed look and feel like a hotel bed?

We've a king size bed with a super king duvet cover, current filled with a 10 tog duvet.
Our bed always looks bedraggled even though the covers are ironed.

We've just come back from a week away in the States and stayed on two hotels, both the beds were super comfy and looked amazing whenever we came back after the cleaners and done their stuff.

What tricks am I missing?

You need a down duvet, heavy count duvet cover, and a matress topper. The big fluffy mattress topper is amazing - dh got ours on ebay

Lots of cushions, several pillows per person?

Karbea · 03/10/2013 12:51

The duvet is 80% goose down, but it never seems very pumped up.
I'll get a topper the next time im in tk maxx/home sense. I thought that might be the answer to the comfort.

Umm… little chocolates on the pillows?

There are loads of hotel linen suppliers on the internet. Why not try to buy from the same place they do?

Karbea, I'd say nearer 5 or 6 cushions, or 2 or 3 pillows per person.

This is what works for us;

  1. Mattress topper
  2. All linen ironed and very slightly starched
  3. High-ish cotton thread count (or real linen if you send your ironing out)
  4. Deep pocket fitted sheets so they're properly stretched
  5. Siberian goose duvet (13.5 in winter)
  6. I'm not a huge fan of loads of cushions/pillows, just the standard sleep pillow plus a bolster to read or prop yourself up in bed
