Scaly build up in loo...

I have scaly build up in all my loos. It's looks really unsightly and doesn't scrub off easily despite my best efforts.

Does anyone know a way of getting rid of it and prevent it coming back?

Just found a whole thread on this with loads of ideas which I'm off to try.

I use a pair of rubber gloves, The Pink Stuff, one of those green nylon pads and some elbow grease. Don't know how to stop it coming back though - move to a soft water area?

You need some spirit of salts. It's highly toxic but does the job nicely. I get it from the chemist and a plumbers merchant if chemist out of stock. Then once it's clear I use harpic power plus every other day to keep it clear.

Pour a bottle of cola (cheap one is fine) down it and leave it overnight. You wont need to scrub unless its really bad.

The black Harpic works for us. Nothing else from the cleaning aisle seemed to.

What thread OP? Any chance of a link?

Oh just replied to your PM. Will bump
It for you.

I used citric acid and a hot kettle in the end, if it a few hours. Loos are like new!
