Sweat smells in clothes

Does anyone have a good tip for getting sweat smells out of clothing (armpits)?

I've got a cardigan that smells even after I've washed it. It seems ok at first but after wearing for an hour or so and the armpits have heated up a bit, the previous sweaty smell starts to release. It's really disgusting and I'm sure there must be a solution involving bicarbonate of soda or vinegar or something.

I've searched on the Internet but don't trust random sites and the often contradictory advice I've read. Anyone have any tried and tested methods they'd be happy to share please? Grin

Thank you.

I use something calle Bio D Nappy Fresh on Dh's smelly shirts. It works well, I discovered it when we were using washable nappies.

Also I use biological powder if that makes a difference.

yy to napisan. Don't use fabric conditioner as it holds smell in
Get sweaty top and soak in napisan for as long as you can then wash, use a bio powder and an extra bit of napisan
I then keep on top of it by soaking sweaty things straight away

Thanks for all the extra replies. Having re-washed at 40 with bio powder, new dettol stuff and no fabric conditioner, it seems to have done the trick! I will bear in mind some of the other suggestions for the future though as well.

Thanks everyone.

whenever I wash my work blouses I put in a scoop of Vanish oxy-action extra hygiene powder - it seems to get the sweaty smell out - and keeps it out too! Bl$%dy expensive though!

Soak clothing in water with disinfectant in it overnight. I use pound shop disinfectant/antiseptic that doesn't smell like disinfectant in warm water.
Wash as normal. Works on stinky sportswear.
