Do I want the 1/2 bowl of my kitchen sink on the left or the right of my full size bowl?

Trying to sort out my new kitchen and I have everything but the kitchen sink! I'm about to order it - so I'm getting a 1 and 1/2 bowl sink and need to decide if the 1/2 bowl is on the right or left of the main sink - any views?

Is drainer to left or right ?

Katymac · 26/06/2006 17:35

I have 2 full sized sinks - so drainer, sink, sink, drainer

I got a quote for a sink like I described and it was about £800 ....... so I bought a left hand and right hand sink & put them together

It's great (no help to you tho...., sorry)

Mine's on the right, but to be honest I use it to store the dishcloth and sponge in rather than anything useful.
Are you right or left handed, maybe that would make a difference too.

sugarfree · 26/06/2006 17:36

Katymac,why?

MrsFogi · 26/06/2006 17:40

I'm right handed and can have the drainer on either side.

I'd go for right hand in that case so sink, 1/2 sink, drainer.

my bowl is on the right, half bowl in the middle and drainer on the left - it was like that when I bought the house. Seems to work OK ( I use half bowl for rinsing on the few occasions that I have to hand wash)

I'm right handed BTW

depends on layout of rest of room ie from which direction the dirty crockery approaches the sink!

If dirty dishes accumulate on the left of the sink, put sink on left, half-sink in middle and drainer on right.
If dirty dishes accumulate to right of sink, put sink on right, half-sink in middle, drainer on left.

We had the former in our last house and have the latter in the current house. In both cases the sink has been at (or very near) the end of a run of work surface, so there's only one real side to stack dirties on.
I guess if you have a sink in the middle of a long work surface you could make it work either way - in which case make the 'dirty' side the one nearest the dishwasher and have the draining board on the other.

DH likes to wash then rinse

Or for those times when the sink gets full and you need to rinse or strain veg

LotosEater · 26/06/2006 17:48

hal-bowl also handy for soaking fresh herbs in - to get rid of pests

sugarfree · 26/06/2006 17:53

Ah! One of those things that you don't know you need til you get one and then become indispensible.
