Beetles in house

This week I've found two black beetles in the house, both near the bathroom. They have quite a distinctive pear shaped body, but Google images hasn't helped me identify them. I'll be pulling out furniture etc. for a really good Hoover tomorrow to check there aren't any more. Does anyone know what they might be, and if I find any more, how best to get rid of them?

Beetles are harmless you know. In fact their the garbage disposal of the animal kingdom so quite beneficial little bugs.

We get the black ones this time of year and have great fun watching them scurry around at night when the kids are in bed Grin

DH has been googling and just said the same! He thinks they are ground beetles or churchyard beetles as they were very black. I thought they were spiders, I must start wearing my glasses more often....

I was a bit concerned in case they were destructive in any way, we are halfway through a refurb, no money to finish it really, and I would cry if we were about to lose one of the things we have finished, IYSWIM!

I don't think the ones which cause damage are that big, it's usually the larvae of smaller beetles
