Tips for unblocking drains

The water in my bath is draining away really slowly so obviously need to do a bit of unblocking. Was just going to use a Mr Muscle type drain cleaner but have read that this stuff is really bad for the pipes. One suggestion I read is to pour down lots of boiling water. Has anyone actually tried this and does it work?

I use Mr Muscle. Regularly. Ah well.

I can't see hot water getting rid of all the hair and general other crap blocking the pipe.

This sometimes works; pack a load of bicarb of soda into the plughole; a whole tubful. Then boil the kettle. Then pour in a load of white vinegar, let it fizz, followed by a kettle of water. Then use a plunger vigorously; this might help and will do no harm to try. TBH i need to just use a plunger on my bath plug hole occasionally to fix this recurring prob. HTH.

sink plunger

if that doesn't fix it,

soda crystals overnight followed by sink plunger.

A lot of the blockages in baths are caused by hair .

Use some cheap depilatory cream squeezed down the plughole overnight. Works really well although stinks the place out more than usual

Thanks everyone. Guess the first thing to do is get a sink plunger!

Two words: caustic soda
