I do, and I'm going to get one. This is a big step for me :o. Does anyone have any recommendations? Ones to avoid?

Terrifically exciting, this.

I would love a steam mop but dont think I can afford one. Are they very expensive?

Llareggub · 11/09/2013 18:01

I have a Vax and it cost me around £50. I have wooden floors downstairs and carpet upstairs and it works well on both. It has a few different settings and comes with detergent but I do use a generic floor cleaner with mine. The bonus is that my 6 and 4 year old fight over who gets to use it!

VelvetStrider · 11/09/2013 18:04

Watching with interest. DP said he wanted to get one last night at 3am as he was on his hands and knees cleaning up a puddle of urine on the kitchen floor!

HesterShaw · 11/09/2013 20:18

I don't know as I haven't checked prices yet, but I've come into a bit of cash recently and all I can think to get is a steam mop .

The Vax sounds good Llareggub (love the name :o )

I have a Bissell Lift off and I love it. Not sure how much, DH bought it for me (sadly I like presents like this!). It does my wooden floors brilliantly and you can lift it off and use attachments to steam clean the windows, bathroom, oven etc which is fab!

Ezza1 · 12/09/2013 14:54

I've just seen a Black abd Decker one that I quite fancy - £79 I think. I'm worried about microfibre pads becoming unavailable in the future though? Is that likely d'you reckon?

Also - are steam mops ok on laminate? I don't want to damage my newly laid laminate flooring Shock

VelvetStrider · 12/09/2013 20:02

Sale on at Vax at the moment, up to 75% off steam cleaners, vacuum cleaners etc. Details on moneysavingexpert.com

OnePlanOnHouzz · 13/09/2013 17:22

I have a vax one - it's a lot easier than my old mop !! :-) only use it on travertine flooring - not tried it on wood floors ? Would it be ok on real wood ?!?!

mirpuppet · 14/09/2013 12:30

If you order this steam mop at ARGOS

Steamworks

you really get a VAX.

See this thread.

MSE

I got a VAX today from Argos from reserving the steamworks model.

I love my Morphy Richards. Has a hand held bit that comes off. I got it this weeks. This morning I tested it. I have done the entire tiled bathroom and have defrosted the freezer and cleaned my own.

I like it because:

Its light.
Easy to go from mop to handheld.
Defrosted the freezer in 10 MINUTEDS!
Lifted loads of gunk from the bathroom with no effort.
Im not worried about chemicals around my DC and pets.

I paid 70 pound and Im very pleased with it.
Get one. It willl change your life.

Ezza1 · 14/09/2013 15:50

mirpuppet - thanks for the heads up on the Vax at Argos. I just went to Argos and got it like you said for £25 by ordering the other one - on googling, looks like the rrp is anywhere between £49-£99 Smile

ILikeToClean · 14/09/2013 18:57

Tuon - not thought about using it to defrost the freezer, will try that - thanks!

HesterShaw · 14/09/2013 20:41

Well I'm all for having my life changed by a mop.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Have reserved one from argos as it is a good price anyway, if I get a vax instead it'll be a bonus but wont mind if its not. Have had steam works stuff before and is generally pretty good.

trikken · 15/09/2013 10:57

Just picked mine up. It was the vax so pleased with that. Looks good.

Callmecordelia · 16/09/2013 08:48

I got the shark lift off from Lakeland. They had a good deal on at the time. I love it because:

  • it has different settings so it can be safely used on laminate flooring
  • the liftoff means I can use it for everything. I cleaned the entire kitchen and bathroom with it last week using the various attachments. Everything gleamed, and the amount of effort I put in was about half what I used to.
  • defrosting the freezer is easy.

I got it from Lakeland because of the guarantee - some of the reviews were a bit iffy - but I really like it. It was expensive, but it was a present for myself.

BombayBadGirl · 16/09/2013 17:07

bought a cheap version from asda (think 'holme') for £25.
that was in march, had to return as it wasnt working got an exchange and now this second one had bitten the dust.
it comes with a year guarantee so will see how long the 3rd one lasts!

HesterShaw · 16/09/2013 17:57

Sounds as though you get what you pay for with steam mops :)

I'm thinking of going with a Vax.

Just reserved the Argos one.. feels like a lucky dip to see which one I get Smile

callamia · 16/09/2013 21:48

I've got a Hoover one. It is great - the tiled floors are so much easier to clean, and it does carpets. The fluff and hair it brought up was shameful.

LittleTulip · 17/09/2013 00:09

Ezza they go generic micro fibre pads in dunelm mill

rosebuddyxx · 24/12/2017 02:50

This article might help: www.elreviews.com/review-best-steam-mop/ it lists down the best steam mops for 2017

Tanyaaah · 24/12/2017 13:42

Do they just blast out the steam or suck up the dirty water too? I want one when I have new floors but confused at how they get rid of the dirt!
