I have not long moved into a my home and already the plug holes are slow flowing, I'm guessing there's a bit of a build up from previous owners
Can anyone recommend the best product to use or a home made products, the cheaper the better although I don't mind spending a bit more if it actually works

I think you need a caustic soda product such as Mr muscle or poundshop equivalent.

It's probably a mix of food, fat. hair and soap scum.

A dash of bi carb soda and a glug of white vinegar. You may have to repeat a few times to sort out the problem though. Hope that helps.

I find the Mr Muscle one is best. It cost £4.39 but it sorts it out in 5 minutes.

In the bathroom try veet! Most of the gung will be soap stuck to hair, so melt the hair!

My five best tips (use them in this order)

  1. a sink plunger

  2. a sink plunger

  3. a sink plunger

  4. washing soda left overnight, followed by sink plunger

  5. Take the trap off and scrape it clean in a bucket. Then put it back and use the sink plunger and washing soda.

I bought one called buster it was on offer for £2.50 in sainsburys, it seems to have done the job in the shower,
Thank you for all your replies and I will be trying them out on the other plug holes

I second the plunger (and it's satisfying too...)

Boiling water followed by plunging, more boiling water and some soda crystals washed down with more boiling water.

Check the grid which the pipes flow into, ours often get blocked by leaves so sink won't drain but pipes are clear.
