Having searched lots of threads this morning for solutions to maggots in wheelie bin & lots of boiling water suggestions which doesn't help when the bin is full of rubbish-I have found a solution!
High strength garden bug clear spray- I tried it on the off chance as it kills caterpillars. Itwas entirely successful- I now have a wheelie bin covered in dead maggots ready for DH to deal with!

I had that bin freshner stuff, forgotten what it is called but strong lemon powder, maybe made by Jeyes fluid. I had a terrible time of maggots and had to wait a further 4 days so i chucked the powder all over the top and they were all killed. Then when bin was emptied I did a jeyes fluid with boiling water to totally disinfect.

Anything to stop maggots from appearing in first place? This two week rubbish collection system is GROSS Angry

Fly spray, just after bin collection, and every time I open the lid.
All rubbish bags sealed. Bin fresh powdee,I also bleach the bins every few months.
When we were on holiday in Turkey the bin men came every day. Every 2 weeks is pretty bad. We have cut down on rubbish, but keeping flys away from bin is a nightmare.

I too get maggots in our wheelie bin. it's so gross. I disinfect the bin every 2 week's after its emptied but they still come back! I am hoping it's a summer thing because really don't know what else I can do

Two weeks Shock , that is disgusting, surely it's a health hazard, in a country that is health and safety mad it's almost beyond belief.

I'm in France, in our village we take ours bins out to big collective bins as and when we want, they are emptied twice a week. Same for our recycling bins.
