Dishwasher recommendation please

piemashandliquer · 04/09/2013 21:31

I am finally getting the plumbing sorted to get my first ever dishwasher. It is something I have wanted ever since we got our first home over 16 years ago.

Could someone please recommend a good dishwasher, and what to avoid. We are a small family just me, DH and DD.

Ideally, we'd like to spend as little as possible as the plumbing is coming to an arm and a leg, but I want something decent and economical with a fast wash programme.

Thanks in advance Smile

Short answer:
Get a simple Bosch. A slide-in one, full size, not integrated.

You can get a complex one, or a slimline, or am intetgrated, if you want to pay extra; or another make if you don't want it to be so reliable or to wash so well.

Longer answer:

The top 6 "Which" best buys (best first), full size, freestanding all brands shown, starting with the top scorers

Bosch

tested Jan 2011 score 79% £315

Bosch
SMS40A08GB
Jan 2011 79% £369

Bosch
SMS53A12GB
Jun 2012 77% £397

Bosch
SMS65E22GB
May 2012 76 £400

Jan 2011 76% £399

Bosch
SMS65E28GB
May 2012 76% £533

Siemens
SN26M253GB
Jan 2011 76% £499

You might notice that most of the top scorers have something in common. Siemens dishwashers are made by BSH, which is a joint-venture company owned byt Bosch and Siemens and also makes teh Bosch branded appliances. The Siemens tend to be aimed a bit more upmarket.

I've had one or two, and like "Which"

I have Siemens and it's great. But then again I had a Zanussi for ten years with no trouble and they are hald the price of Siemens.

Bosch!

Beko also do well in Which and are much cheaper so might be worth looking at.
They mostly have a quick wash too though am sure the build quality wont match Bosch.

BerylStreep · 06/09/2013 09:29

My Mum seems to go through dishwashers at an alarming rate. The dishwasher engineer said to her when she replaces her current one, she should go for as cheap as possible.

Apparently very few are built to last these days.

piemashandliquer · 08/09/2013 20:48

thanks all for your replies. I think I'd steer clear of a Beko, got a tumble dryer from them and its useless.
