Boring smelly washing machine question.

Recently gave my washing machine a spring clean by cleaning out the drawer and squirting boiling water down the various inlets. Then did a 90 degree wash in the hope of getting it to smell fresh. Now smells worse than ever, really horrible dank aroma. Any tips for getting rid of the stench?

Sounds like you dislodged some gunk, but not flushed it away do you think?

Have you emptied any fluff or filter drawer? Then I'd put vinegar in the fabric conditioner drawer and some in the drum and run on a 60 degrees.

Thanks Vivacia, I can't believe how horrid the inside of a washing machine gets. I will try out your suggestions.

I had this same problem - moved into a new flat (rented) and because I'm anal about these things I had to do a full clean of the washing machine before using it. I did as Vivacia says - drained the water, then cleared the filter. Only takes a few minutes. Then I used Kilrock descaler (hard water area) and did a 90C cycle with biological powder (afaik, non-bio doesn't break down so easily in cooler washer so it can get gunked up a bit). I also bleached in the door seal as people tend to forget that water collects there and that can cause a smell.

After doing that, it smelled worse Confused So I ran it through again on a hot wash with bio. I also poured pulled the drawer out to wash it and poured hot water where it had been, as it was all soap gunky behind. That seemed to do the trick.

I use 2 dishwasher tablets on a hot wash , works wonders.
