Disgusting compost bin question

Please tell me what to do. Just back from hols and went to put the sprouty potatoes in the compost caddy (our food waste is collected with our rubbish by the council). The caddy was almost full before we left and normally after a couple of weeks it just collapses down a little...but this time, it all seems to have liquified and the bin is half full of disgusting half rotten food, water and mould which has burst out of the caddy liners.

Question is, am I being disgusting for thinking that the best option is to just put it out to be emptied as usual, and then give it a good clean, or is that being really unkind to the poor man who will have to handle it? If I empty it out now, I can't imagine how I can get rid of it...too lumpy to flush down the loo, too liquid for the regular rubbish...help!!!

I'd put it out to be emptied as normal. I wash mine out every week as otherwise it would end up too stinky. We have a caddy in the kitchen & then a bigger container which I put out with the rubbish.

Our caddy is small, uses liners and is kept in the kitchen, it's emptied into a big wheely bin for collection. The caddy is cleaned every time it's emptied. I think I've cleaned the big bin once, but it helps to put a layer of garden waste at the bottom.

Put it out as usual - it's not half as bad as one full of maggots and is pretty much par for the course for a food compost caddy in warm weather.

Round here the caddies get emptied into a special container on the rubbish truck. I do wonder if the rubbish people hold a draw or competition and the loser gets this job.

Oh, thank you, that makes me feel much better. They probably have to deal with even worse on a regular basis I suppose. The challenge will be to find the time to clean it between collection on Weds and needing to put more stuff into it. I will have to put that in my diary! Hmm
