Tell me about your shoe storage...

My life is so rock and roll.

3 years in our current home, and we're still struggling here! It is apparent that our hallway is the most natural place as this is where our shoes end up in a horrid messy pile so what can I do? The challenges are that it's an old house so the hallway is narrow, I need to be able to manoeuvre a buggy through, and my budget is fairly non-existent. Anyone got any brilliant ideas? (DH also has huge feet so need to be able to fit his clodhoppers in) oh, and if it could be integrated with a key/sunglasses/etc solution, that would be even better!!

I have all mine in a massive Ikea basket behind the sofa. I''ve given up trying to store them neatly.

Ruffello · 29/08/2013 07:07

Watching with interest as I have the same problem. I'd like something like this if our cupboard under the stairs wasn't already full of crap

vjhist85 · 29/08/2013 07:32

No room behind the sofa! I LOVE that cupboard, sadly our under the star cupboard comes off the kitchen and is partly blocked by the fridge.

I have a narrow Ikea Billy bookcase facing sideways, so you don't see the shoes (if that makes sense!)

Works really well.

cjdamoo · 29/08/2013 07:43

I have a shoe closet. The house has two linen cupboards so I deemed one to be a shoe closet.

HorryIsUpduffed · 29/08/2013 08:00

We have an IKEA shoe cupboard in the front room and another in the dining room. They are very slimline against the wall but we still didn't put them in the very narrow porch.

We keep things like keys, sunglasses and unopened post on top.

Weelady77 · 29/08/2013 08:15

I have a shoe tidy in the hall by the front door for everyday shoes and all other shoes are neatly at the bottom of all our wardrobes, think I paid £5 for shoe tidy out of pound stretchers Smile

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 29/08/2013 08:23

restrict everyone to one pair of shoes downstairs (all others must live in their bedroom) and get a hanging shoe pocket thing suspended of maybe a sort of shelf with a boxy guard for the other bits?

Chopstheduck · 29/08/2013 08:24

we have a smaller amount by the door and an old book case from freegle outside with most of them on. we get far more on that bookcase than we ever did on a shoe rack.

BrianButterfield · 29/08/2013 08:26

We got an Expedit with a basket for each person. They're quite deep but if you can fit one in it holds soooo much hall junk!

DeathMetalMum · 29/08/2013 09:05

We have a telescopic pole which hangs shoes on in the one corner of our tiny hallway (we also have boxing in, a radiator and coat pegs) really nothing else would work. Its from argos 914/2550 sorry can't do a proper link on my phone. It's the only thing we could find to fit the space and looks 100 times better than them being piled up on the floor even though they are on show still.

vjhist85 · 29/08/2013 10:01

Ooh I wish I had room anywhere for any of those cupboardy type things! That pole looks great deathmetalmum, whilst I don't usually like things on show you're right, at least they're tidy! London- I wish that it would work to restrict everyone to one pair of shoes...sadly I'm probably the worst culprit... Maybe I'll try again to be strict with myself!

Usually one pair each lined up in hall - narrow hall with radiator cupboard so no space for baskets etc, but the top has a bowl with keys and we have a small lidded basket for dog lead/bags etc and in the summer another for suncreams / glasses.

Rest of the everyday shoes go under the stairs. I got some cheap wooden shoe racks from B&Q and fixed 2 together and put casters on the bottom so I can pull the whole thing out as the hoover / mop is stored behind.

Weegiemum · 29/08/2013 15:51

Ours are in the cupboard-under-the -stairs. Each dc has a big plastic box in there - for school coat, bag, shoes.

Other stuff (keys etc) is from today going on the arty wee up cycled table I just bought! Need a key bowl (a la Big Bang Theory) next!

ilovepowerhoop · 29/08/2013 17:33

we have recently bought this rack from argos. It is good as it has mesh so fits all sorts of sizes of shoes. 4 tier shoe rack

Umlauf · 29/08/2013 17:38

Watching with interest! We currently use a big basket from to max for chucking shoes/scarf/handbag in when entering house instead of on the floor and keep the out of season shoes under the sofa (sofa/storage) and the in season ones in my wardrobe but its badly organised!

noisytoys · 29/08/2013 17:42

I own 4 pairs of shoes. One is usually stored on my feet, the other 3 on a shelf on my bookshelf Smile
