Tell me about your linen cupboard

Do you have pull out baskets or just piles? What works best for you?

Currently have piles but have discovered the wonder of shelf baskets and think it might be better to have baskets here too.

Bedding in piles, my bedding in a pile DD bedding in a pile and both DS bedding in a pile and a pile of hand towels and bath mats and in bathroom a basket full of towels

Piles. Our bedding, DDs' bedding, my towels, DH's towels and DDs' towels. And a whole load of crap stuffed at the back.......

I don't even have a linen cupboard I just have crates under the bed

I have baskets for towels ( basket for each person + a guest basket).

Linen is also in baskets (one for each person), each bed linen 'set' is folded into a matching pillow case to make the bed changes quicker. I must however confess its our cleaner who is this organised but it seems to work well.

I have mine in an airing cupboard, in tidyish piles. I once stayed in dh's cousin's huge house in Paris. I opened her beautiful shabby chic wooden linen cupboard to see immaculate stacks of crisply ironed expensive real linen bedding, which smelled gorgeous

I use a 1920's wardrobe which I rescued and restored by first stripping it back, then colour - washing it inside and out with semi opaque tones of blue.

I then fit shelves inside and now keep folded towels at the top and bedding below.

Hanging from the original brass hooks are little stuffed fabric hearts which I drop a little lemon grass oil onto, to lightly scent everything.

I luffs my linen press!

oops! , just read that back and it sounds like I'm applying for homes and Gardens!

Piles, some in a cupboard in DD1s room the rest in divan bed draws in our room and DD2s room. Folded if it's lucky, but often stuffed and the draw kicked.

Ah, lots of piles then! I also have everything stored in very approximate piles but I go a bit crazy every time I try to find a duvet cover and matching pillowcases, for instance. I'm thinking a few cheap white wicker baskets from a pound shop may transform my linen storing experience.

At the moment I have the kids bedding in their rooms because we have to change their sheets in the middle of the night so freakin often. But I may move them to the airing cupboard too and make room for toys that are currently elsewhere.

Seriously, what are guest towels? Do guests not just use any old clean towels?

Anally retentive with labels. Sheets are kept in sets like this.

Towels are kept like with like.

Duvets are kept in zip up bags from the White Company at the bottom.

Have you tried an armoire? This looks like a tall wardrobe but has inside shelves for storage of folded up bedding, jumpers and other things. You dont have to pull drawers, just open the doors and look and take what you need. It has bigger capacity than a chest of drawers.

You can remove the shelves and put a rod to use it as a woardrobe.

I don't have a linen cupboard. I keep all our sheets, p/cases and duvet covers in 2 drawers in my bed base (2 of us in the house, 2 single beds). I have a blanket box which I use for all clean towels and also blankets which are in a storage bag in the blanket box. None of it is organised in any particular way.

I do have a set of guest towels but rarely have guests stay so I probably might as well not bother. The idea was that they wouldn't get frequent use so they'd be quite soft and also the towels match in colour whereas the rest of our towels are all different colours.

Ah. Linen.

There is a clean set in a sealed tub under every bed, and then additional items and towels are folded in piles in my airing cupboard. Anything which isn't used regularly is stored in vacuum bags.

I have it in a bedding chest. Inside there are four IKEA SKUBB boxes:

1: fitted sheets & mattress protectors
2: flat sheets
3: duvet covers
4: pillow cases

Then towels are in the bathroom and blankets are in a stuff bag in the bedroom, which is not ideal. The boxes are useful and do keep everything sorted easily, but you do have to pull everything out and wash the things that end up at the bottom about twice a year to stave off yellowing. That is the main bonus of properly aired shelves, I spose. I just tend to wash the whole lot on the first properly sunny day.

I am building a window seat with an integrated chute down to the laundry and then I will have eight divisions inside the seat:

fitted, flat, protectors, covers, cases, blankets, towels, off season duvet

I am highly, tragically, excited about this.
