What is wrong with my sofa?

Any ideas?

We have a two seater sofa which is about three years old bought from Furniture Village. I can't remember what it cost us ... not that much I don't think, it might even possibly have been "free" with the matching three seater sofa bed we bought at the same time.

Anyway, its one of those with big cushions on it. After a few years of normal wear and tear and 17 stone dh sitting on it, when you perch your arse on it now you sink down too far! Its like it has lost a layer of something that holds the cushions up.

Is this a professional reupholstery job? Do you think its worth it?

Mine went like this as well, and I was told the foam in the cushions needed replacing. I had a new set made to measure by a local firm and it feels like new now.

Oh thank you for replying!

I fear it is a problem beneath the cushions. The cushions themselves still seem lovely and firm.

I'd guess the cushions are fixed in place over a sprung base. It's probably the springs that have died, especially on a fairly cheap sofa. If so, then yes, professional job, and no, it's probably not worth it, unless you are particularly attached to the sofa, or REALLY committed to recycling. It'd probably cost as much as a replacement sofa.

Would something like this help?
