Ironing

Can anyone recommend a good iron?
I can't afford to spend a fortune on it but I want something decent that will last.
The last one I bought was fairly cheap but it has got all black kind of stuff stuck on it and despite trying to clean it it keeps happening.
I guess it is fluff from clothes but DH has recently had to wear white shirts for work and I've already trashed one .

I think that black stuff tends to come from ironing synthetics too hot (but I might be wrong). Before you give up on the current iron, check out iron cleaning products. And tell your husband to iron his own shirts ;-)

He actually got a couple of different things and tried to clean it but it didn't really help.
Got one in sainburys today on offer and it seems ok. I shall turn the temperature down in future!
