Vax carpet cleaners - any good?

I'm debating whether to fork out and buy a Vax carpet cleaner for about £100 or to hire a Rug Doctor. I have two carpets to clean, mainly soiled with baby sick! Does anyone have any experience to help me decide? TIA.

Rug doctor ruined my carpets, they had to be replaced. I now have a vax ( I think it's the rapid 2) it's brilliant, really brilliant. Only minus point I can think of is that it's big so storage may be a problem for some.i buy the cleaning solution from Amazon, much cheaper than everywhere else.

I have had my vax cleaner for 7/8 years now. Often lend it out to. It's great does the job and has paid for itself many times over. Actually reminded me I do need to do my carpets again soon.

I bought one of the original ones second hand. I had it 25 years and shampooed all the my carpets at least 2 or 3 times a year. It got lent out to other people too and did car seats and car carpets, upholstery, everything. It finally died last year and I really, really miss it. The modern version is nowhere near as good. Apparently the quality went right off when they shipped manufacture to somewhere abroad Sad

Thanks everyone. I think I can justify buying one based on what you've said. It's a bit sad I think this will be exciting like a new toy!
