Baby sick on new carpet. Help!!!

DS2 has just been sick on the new carpet. Have wiped it up with a damp cloth but not sure how to stop it developing into something smelly and nasty. Any suggestions?

Dissolve a couple of tbsp of bicarbonate of soda in about half a mug of hot water and then pour over the sicky area and leave.

Thanks fruitful. I knew it had something to do with bicarbonate of soda but I didn't know what to do with it.
