Tips for getting oil out of carpets?

I left DS (2) in his room too long... turns out he wasn't napping, he was pouring baby massage oil over the carpet...

I've googled for tips, and have so far:

  • put an old towel over the stain and gently applied pressure to soak up oil
  • added talcum powder; to be vacuumed up shortly
  • taken DS out in the car to make him sleep

Anything else?

I would shampoo it with washing up liquid to break down the oil

When dh traipsed oil all over our carpet (bicycle oil in our case) I had excellent results with washing up liquid.
A plumber friend also recommended shaving foam which I tried on a different (worse) spot in not such a visible area which did work but not as well IMO.

biological washing powder made up with hot water and sponged on then blotted off and rinsed with more hot water.

would only do this on synthetic carpets though. it might damage real wool carpet.
