Help - washing machine smells

I have looked back at about 7 pages of threads but no washing machine smells!

Only been a few days - have put on a 90 degree wash with nothing in it but hasn't helped.

Clothes just gone out on line don't smell of fabric conditioner but instead smell of the smell of the washing machine.

Some clothes have got little brown bits on that I can pick off.

Could it be the filter? If it is can I change it/where is it?!!!!

Do I need vinegar? - yes I read enough cleaning threads while looking for a washing machine thread to know that vinegar is good.

did you clean the rubber seal and the dispenser drawer and the bit the drawer fits into? My filter is behind a kickplate at the bottom front of the machine and I need to remove a screw and then unscrew the cover to get to the filter. Have towels handy as water will come out too.

Thanks for reply, yes have done all that this afternoon. Still smells a bit but perhaps not so bad.

DM has suggested white vinegar and soda crystals too.

A load of white vinegar in a 90 degree wash will do no harm so worth a try.

Do you use powder or liquid? The liquid can gunk the insides up.

Also, do you leave the door open so the machine can dry out after each load? If I forgot and close the door, the washing machine always smells musty when I open it again.
