Tiles vs laminate flooring.

Our hall, dining room and kitchen (think big L shape with a door from the hall to the dining room) currently have nasty cheap laminate flooring.

I am decorating the hall in the next few weeks and NEED to replace the flooring (and the stairs carpet). I've umed and ahed about whether to carpet the hall the same as the stairs but we mainly use the front door and I would be forever cleaning the carpet.

So - are tiles for the whole lot (hall, dr and kitchen) a better bet than decent laminate?

What are the pros and cons of both.

This is not a particularly warm house, so that's a consideration. Also the hall has a big south facing window (probably the warmest place in the house at times) so the sun has faded the stairs carpet - does / do laminate / tiles fade?

At.

That's "TA" not "at"

If I couldn't have wood (or bamboo) I'd go with tiles. I am so sick of laminate.

That's the thing - I'm sick of laminate too! I was Hopi g there might be some quality laminate that didn't look shit somewhere!

Made a decision yet CB? Would love to know which you went for.

Currently pondering the same thing. Have seen a brand of 'luxury vinyl tiles' called Harvey Maria that look nice enough but still drawn toward porcelain tiles. The only thing that has me undecided is the need for underfloor heating and extra cost associated with it.

There is also Kardean and Amtico for LVT. What strikes me is that both tiles and lvt are equally expensive so it will come down to aesthetic preference and comfort in the end...if only I didn't feel the cold so much!
