Sour Smell

Over the last week I've noticed a sour smell in my kitchen and living room. I live in a very old, very small, cottage. My husband has a poor sense of smell and never notices any pongs (good or bad). I'm wondering where it's coming from and what to do about it. I'm not a slave to housework admittedly, but I like to be clean and non-smelly. It's almost like milk that's going off. It's not coming from the fridge. I've had all the furniture out and can't figure it out. Any ideas?

pull the fridge out and look in the evaporation dish on top of the motor.

Unplug it first.

When cleaning, do not allow water to drip on any electrical part.

It will be revolting.

It'll be your dishcloth.

RegTheMonkey · 06/08/2013 13:06

PigletJohn, I'll certainly try that.

MelanieCheeks - I don't use dishcloths.

We had a smell for ages. Turned out to be damp.

Orangesandlemons - that's been one of my suspicions and I really hope it's not. Will continue to investigate.

Could it be mice? Do they smell?

Oh dear. We found something dead in the attic after that smell.

Elsiequadrille · 06/08/2013 13:35

A vaguely sweet smell, like milk going off.

RegTheMonkey · 06/08/2013 13:36

Elsiequadrille - oh dear I'm going to dread poking around now. You describe the smell exactly. :(
