My lovely mil is very ill. She was in hospital last week & her cats went wild in the house...

We returned to cat wee, poo & vomit. Even though a window was opened & they have a litter tray. The house stinks. Mil is in hospital tomorrow for a biopsy. I intend on giving the house a good clean so please MNs how do i get rid of the smell of cat?!

TIA.

sprinkle bio washing powder on any carpets. leave for a bit then hoover.
hover and mop all hard surfaces, you can put half a cup of bio powder in the bucket of mopping water.
all soft furnishings/rugs/curtains that can be washed, wash (again) with bio detergent.
do the cats have a litter tray? empty it wash (you guessed it) with water/bio powder.

good luck, hope your mil recovers quickly.

A thorough deep clean of the offending areas should do it. Replace litter trays with new ones if they are stained. I find wood pellet litter is best for minimising smells, that and poo picking ever time the tray is soiled. Cats hate dirty litter trays and will protest elsewhere if not clean.

Vanish is good on carpet stains from cats.

You could get some feliway spray or plug in to calm the cats as well. They sound very stressed, poor things.

Pop a couple of puppy training pads around the litter tray. This is what we have done with one of ours who has been missing her tray and it soaks up and any wee without it going on the carpet.

hire a carpet shampooer
