To descale an electric kettle:

Boil up half a kettle of water.
Unplug the kettle and stand it in a bowl or the sink.
Pour in some white vinegar - such as pickling vinegar, and leave to 'fizz' until all the scale has dissolved. Do this in a well-ventilated room, or it will soon smell like a chip shop! If the scale is very bad then you may need to use a proper kettle descaler the first time you descale it, followed by regular descaling with white vinegar on subsequent occasions.
Rinse out the kettle thoroughly before use. Smile

another vote for white vinegar, works a treat.

Another vote for white vinegar. half and half white vinegar and water (enough to cover the element) boil, leave to soak overnight, rinse out in the morning.

No nasty chemicals Smile

after you've done it put a couple of seashells or marbles in the kettle..they stop limescale building up!

I've got a little ball of wire thing I got from Robert Dyas which is supposed to stop limescale. It has certainly reduced it in my kettle
