I buy a box of ten eggs and a month ago I had 8 from the one box with double yolks. When I told my mum she said she had 4 in one box of the same brand.

GoofyIsACow · 29/07/2013 15:15

I had a box of six double yolkers from aldi about 12 months ago, i was stupidly excited. Then about 6 months ago someone was in one of the newspapers brandishing six broken egg shells, a jug full of 12 yolks and a Grin

SirChenjin · 29/07/2013 15:15

Oh - so not really that rare Sad

That's my little yolk-filled bubble burst!

I bought a lottery ticket i am typing this whilst laid on my sun lounger by the pool of my italian farmhouse no I am not :(

SirChenjin · 29/07/2013 15:17

Oooh ooh, they were from Aldi too Goofy

What sort of hens are they using, I wonder? Super efficient German ones, no doubt

HouseAtreides · 29/07/2013 15:17

It's more common than you think- they are likely to have come from the same flock and been boxed by size so the bigger ones have a higher chance of being doubles, especially if they are young hens :)

gintastic · 29/07/2013 15:27

I've had double yolkers from aldi as well :-)

JosiePosiePuddingAndPie · 29/07/2013 15:31

Jackpot!

SirChenjin · 29/07/2013 15:35

Ahh, so that's what it is House. Another reason to love Aldi Smile

I had 6 out of 6 double yokers a little while ago, I was ridiculously excited.

Frontdoorstep · 29/07/2013 16:05

I think it is rare to get a double yorker, but then if you have a hen/batch of hens that produce a double yorker, it's likely that they might all be producing double yokers, so unusual to get one in the first place but having got one not that more unusual to get more than one.

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 29/07/2013 16:08

The same rule applies with four leaf clovers too apparently.

HouseAtreides · 29/07/2013 16:48

Yes Maggie :) it's a genetic glitch that makes a plant produce four (or five or six) leaved clovers. If there's one, there will be more- there are tons where I walk my dog!

mummylin2495 · 29/07/2013 17:11

In our local waitrose they sell double yolked eggs in boxes of six. Think they are about £2.99

HorryIsUpduffed · 29/07/2013 17:14

Very exciting!

... unless you were planning on making a big meringue, in which case you won't have enough white. Grin

SirChenjin · 29/07/2013 17:20

Grin Horry

No - just a bog standard cake and cupcakes thankfully!
