Ok I know this is the most boring question ever, but I am so confused by lightbulbs! I just don't understand the terminology now that we no longer have the old 40w 60w 100w system and so on.

I need a dimmable bulb with a bayonet fitting -preferably one of those nice golfball style ones as it's for our bedroom and the lampshade doesn't have a diffuser.

Yours in bewilderment, Hackney

Dimmable energy saving bulbs are available but they're generally very expensive. Your best bet is to go to your local B&Q and spend a few minutes looking at the shelves. Most modern bulbs have the equivalent old rating listed on the box as well.

Or if you have a John Lewis nearby, a very helpful assistant will talk you through your needs/options.
