How do you know if your microwave is faulty?

Have had mine for about 2 years now, have just heated a microwave meal (15 mins) and the surface it's on as well as the microwave are hot
Doesn't get hot if I just use it for 2 or 3 mins
Is it fit for the bin?

Isn't it more likely to be the dish you heated it on - is it the same one you usually use?

The microwave plate is the proper one and the dish I used is one I usually use I was just a bit concerned that the surface the microwave is on was hot too

Oh, I see what you mean - the actual worktop under microwave is getting hot? Doesn't sound right...but I know very little about the workings of microwaves! I think the magnetron (which generates the waves) is on the side not the bottom. Maybe the motor that turns the turntable is over-heating? Google may be your friend here.,,

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking of googling it but thought I'd ask the mighty mumsnet first Grin
