How to get black marks off from base of iron?

I have tried rubbing with cream cleanser. A bit came off but it's still there. Is there any special kind of remover?

Yes there is specific iron cleaner or iron cleaning pads, for those of us who manage to get stuff stuck to the iron I have bought it in a bottle before, I think, but bought a pack of iron cleaning pads yesterday at Morrisons (79p ) so try there if you have one nearby. Or google 'iron cleaner' and you'll see loads.

I'm in Australia too, have you tried the blue scouring pads?

I haven't tried them but would worry they would scratch. I found a Philips iron cleaner on Good Guys website so will try that. Thanks.

My mum said newspaper, and i didnt use enough water in the iron. it didn't work I ended up throwing iron away how do they get there?

Last time i had a mark on the sole plate of my iron I used a paste of water and bicarb of soda, worked great
