My food recycling bin is RANK

We have little green bins for disposing of food weekly. Well, there's a tiny one on my windowsill and then a larger one for the curb.

And, dear lord but it's foul. Full of green fuzz and some things (I think bagels, judging by the shape of the green fuzz) adhered to the bottom.

I don't have a garden hose. How the hell am I going to clean this thing?

Gloves on, scrape the worst out. Then v hot water, bit of washing up liquid and a splash of bleach, 5 minute soak then a darn good scrub with a scoury sponge thing.
I take it that it's small enough to reach down into?

we have just been given room waste bin ' foul in this weather, we can put brown paper in ours so I put all food east in brown paper bags the medium size fits into the house bin and I pop the bag into the collection bin. Could you do that?

Rubber glove job by the sounds of it ...

Oh, I have biodegradable liners for the small one on the kitchen sill.

The big one is rank and that's because I sometimes put things straight in there without any sort of bag around it.

Very stupid of me, I know!

If it's huge and your hands can't reach the bottom, you probably need to turn the bin on its side in the garden (or on the pavement near a drain if no garden). Maybe you could use an old mop head or tie a cloth around a broom end to reach the bottom? Get a bucket of hot water and washing up liquid. Pour it into the upright bin and leave it to soak for a while before attempting to clean. Once you've loosened the gunge, tip the water and gunge out onto the garden or down a drain.
