Dishwasher maintenance and cleaning

We have just got a new dishwasher.

What are your top tips for keeping it in tiptop condition? (And not letting it get into the cruddy state that the last one did!)

And do you recommend the combined type dishwasher tablets, or not?

Hard water area here.

Thanks

Tesco own brand tablets arts the same as finish-a recent discovery! Always use the hottest cycle and ALWAYS use salt even if you use the 3 in 1 tablets.

Once a month run a cleaner through it on empty.

yes, the most important thing is not to let the salt run out. If you ever see traces of limescale inside the cabinet, adjust the Water hardness setting up one level.
5 in one tablets are fine but don't be deceived into leaving out the salt or rinse aid.

clean the filters once a week or so - there may be three, read the instructions. Detritus in the spinner arms means they have to be taken off to clean.

Wipe grease and oil off pans with kitchen roll before washing. Don't put grease down the drain or in the machine.

Sponge the edges of the door and frame at least once a week. Include the bottom edge.

I never need to use a dwr cleaning chemical.
