Those with young boys - what furniture/storage do you have in their bedroom?

Hi
My ds is 5 and has a decent sized bedroom but it needs sorting out as it's overflowing with stuff and this makes ir hard to clean.
There are double built in wardrobes in there which my dh uses but he is going to free up one side for ds. Until now ds's clothes have been folded in a large wooden chest of drawers which doesn't match any of tge rest of the furniture. We have a small trofast toy storage unit from ikea and a very small bookcase which overflows into floor!
I want to tidy it all up, maybe ebay the drawers and replace with more ikea bits.
Just looking for inspiration really as to what works well i.e floor to ceiling shelving, bookcases, shelves etc.

Thanks

ds has a chest of drawers for boxers, socks, shorts, trousers, pj's, etc and a wardrobe for tops, t-shirts, shirts, etc. He also has a bookcase and a couple of plastic storage tubs with toys in. His bed also has storage drawers with stuff in them.

DS (6) and DD (4) share a room.

For storage they have: a large IKEA chest of drawers for clothes and spare bedding, think it has 4 big drawers and 2 small ones at the top.

Toy storage is mostly in Trofast, they have 3 x the units that take 3 large boxes, although one bottom bit is a bookshelf. They also have a shelf each over their beds for 'special things' - DS mostly has books on his.

There's a large tub trug for soft toys and some flat plastic boxes for underbed storage.

I have two DSs who now share and they each have a truck bed and a tidybooks bookcase. There is a small chest of drawers for DS2's clothes and a cupboard which houses DS1s clothes. Other than that just a small basket for cars and a couple of soft toys that they sleep with. Cleans up in about 1 min Grin. We do have a playroom though with various ikea bookcases in for storage - toys mostly live in baskets or just on the shelves if too bulky for a basket. I've found the easiest way for us to keep it all from getting too much is to keep just a bit of what they play with - mine are obsessed with cars, but they all have to fit in a small basket - I cull them when we start to accumulate too many. Same goes for duplo, lego, schleich animals, etc. As long as it all fits in the container it is easy to tidy.

My two are 7 and 3yo. In their room there is a built in wardrobe and a 5x5 square Ikea Expidit unit.

They have a triple sleeper bunk (double on bottom, single on top) and a sofa bed in there too.

Massive expedit unit with the red trofast drawers in for all the toys. Great for big picture books too!

RobotBananas · 14/07/2013 15:11

Pax drawers without the runners fit well under the beds too.

Pinterest is brilliant for ideas for this sort of thing.

I don't know what it is called ( help me out if you do!) but you can buy cloth type hanging shelving to put inside a wardrobe to create extra space.

underbed storage and door hooks have probably been mentioned, but ours have bunkbeds so we have "over door hooks" (proper name?) at the end of the top bunks as well.

I also have a box inside one wardrobe for pjs - can't be bothered to match and fold them anymore.

ZingWidge, I think you mean a sweater hanger?

My ds has 2 of these which are great for stopping picture books collapsing everywhere. :)

ZingWidge · 14/07/2013 18:56

nope leeloo

I'll link a photo later

Ds2 is tricky as the only space that is 'his' is his mid sleeper bed, and the bid under it which is in a state tbh.

He doesn't have his own room, it's in my room top to toe with my double (which I share with ds3!)

Ds1 however has another mid sleeper, with cupboards and desk etc under it. He doesn't need much storage as he only likes lego and his tablet thing, (he's 10) but he has an old oak chest of drawers from my late Granny's house, for his clothes.

Other toys we keep in separate lidded boxes and a few random boxes that need sorting out. Metal racking/shelves from argos or ebay are cheap and take a lot of boxes.

My 2 sons 4 and 2 share a room.
They have a bed each then the contents of IKEA!
The have the white malm 6 drawer unit each, and 2 4x4 expedite with boxes in each cubby. www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70161320/ one of these with all the dressing up stuff in and a small trofast unit.
