How often do you wash blankets and how?

Just wondering how often you think blankets need washing and how do you wash them? I rarely use any myself but my ds uses them all year round.

I've only got single blankets but they vary in size. I gave up washing them in the machine at home after I washed one and the machine walked forward dragging the lino with it. Hmm

I now have a washing machine on a stone floor and it seems fine for the smaller blankets but when I washed a bigger one (still only single) some of it seemed too dry when it came out after just being washed and I wonder if the water only got round parts of it so I think I might have to go to a launderette with the biggest blankets.

In my world: Babies blankets (ie cotton cellular etc in a variety of sizes) are washed pretty much weekly. Fleecy single sized about monthly. King size fleecy and throws is about twice a year (but seldom used for actual sleeping - they hang around the lounges for sitting on the floor/snuggling in).

Proper wooly felt ones - we don't own any but I agree from what you are saying you need a bigger drum.

Personally, I would go with twice a year so long as they don't look too bad/smell/been dribbled on but I am no expert.

Or - swap to something easier to wash! The baby blankets get a lot of use simply because they are so easy to deal with (I borrow them for me on a hot night).
