Last Mon I Vaxed the sitting room carpet, it was pretty bad so I went over it twice. Had the windows open in there ever since but its still damp in some places and now there is a horrible sweet musty smell. What can I do to get rid of it?

apart from the obvious airing as much as you can, can you hire/buy a dehumidifier?
is it a wool carpet? I find thy smell when damp.

I had my carpets prof cleaned a while ago, they have wool in them. There was a terrible smell, kind of like wet dog that lasted a couple of weeks then gradually faded.

that's given me hope:)

Go over it again with the vax but without releasing any fluid. DH managed this a while back & it was because he hadn't sucked up all the water! I 'dry' vaxed it a couple of times and it was fine.

as it is already mouldy I suspect you will have to clean it again to kill the mould, but yes, run the sucker over it again and again to get all moisture out.

It might have got the underlay damp too. It is very important not to let the wet soak in during cleaning, put it on and suck it straight out. Opening the windows will certainly help, but there is no airflow through the carpet itself, only over the top.

will do that, thanks :)
